Gavin Marshall

Associate Director

Gavin has over 30 years of experience as a physical performer, actor and director working in theatre, circus and film. Having studied Drama at Bristol University and then trained as a circus performer specialising in aerial skills, Gavin worked extensively as a performer both in circus and theatre, often specialising in work for physical directors such as Steven Berkoff and David Glass. Combining his knowledge of theatre with his circus background, Gavin joined the Royal Shakespeare Company as aerial director on Michael Boyd’s Olivier award-winning Henry VI trilogy, before going on to work as his assistant director on Hamlet, clocking up over a dozen productions at the RSC as actor, aerial choreographer, assistant and director.

On film, for The Generating company Gavin was circus director on Aamir Khan’s Dhoom3 with Aamir Khan, who he then shared the screen with as Captain James Powell in Thugs of Hindostan.

He worked extensively for many years with Andy Serkis at The Imaginarium as part of his core motion capture ensemble, most notably on the films Mowgli and Animal Farm and led the motion capture team on Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One.

For Anystage, Gavin worked as the Circus director on The Garden Of Love, the Ambani wedding spectacle in Mumbai as well as assisting Abigail Yeates for The Generating Company on Spirit of the Nation, the UAE 40th Anniversary stadium celebration and Elekron for Studio 8 in Macau. Over the last two years, Gavin has continued working closely with Anystage Creative tasked with the the creation and/or maintenance of a roster of 5 new shows for Creativiva on P&O’s Iona.
